US State Department Removes Human Rights Language from Annual Report
February 2018 reporting reveals that officials at the State Department have been ordered to cut language regarding women’s reproductive rights, as well as racial and sexual discrimination, from a soon-to-be-released annual report. These changes highlight the current administration’s deprioritization of human rights. The US State Department has long held a role of advocating for human rights globally. This deprioritization of human rights, at home and abroad, leaves marginalized people with one less voice highlighting their needs.
