TN Teen Told Photo Wouldn’t Appear in Yearbook Because She Did Not Conform to Gender Rules

In February 2018 a teenager in Tennessee found out that her photograph would not be displayed in her senior yearbook because she opted to wear a tux instead of a drape. The school said that all girls wear drapes and all boys wear tuxes. This policy marginalizes students who do not wish to conform to social gender norms, as it erases them from existence in the yearbook.
