Several States Propose Work Requirements for Medicaid Benefits
As of March 2018 the Trump administration has authorized three states to include work requirements for some people receiving Medicaid benefits. Tennessee and Michigan have also proposed work requirements for some Medicaid recipients. These requirements could mean that many current beneficiaries lose coverage to health care services that allow them to function, including to work. These work requirements are an example of ableism, because many people will lose coverage they need to survive and to be productive, healthy citizens.
