SD Passed Law Restricting What Doctors Can Say to Patients Seeking Abortions

In February 2018 the South Dakota legislature passed a new abortion restriction limiting what doctors can say to patients. The new law would prevent doctors from saying “politicians in the state of South Dakota require us to tell you that” before telling patients other information that is required under law. Legislative requirements that impose restrictions on the relationship between a woman and her doctor impede reproductive rights by treating women as less capable of making their own decisions without specific instruction from the mostly male lawmakers.
