SD Lawmaker Said Businesses Should be Allowed to Discriminate Based on Race

In June 2018 a lawmaker in South Dakota said that business owners should be allowed “to turn away people of color,” while defending the rights of a bakery to refuse to make a cake for a same-sex wedding. This type of discrimination suggests that minorities don’t belong in public spaces. This marginalization is harmful to the people in affected groups, whether they are people of color or LGBTQ.
