Racist Displays Spotted on Campus of a DC University

In May 2017 nooses holding bananas marked with the letters of an historically black sorority were found hanging on the campus of a university in Washington, DC. The bananas refer to a derogatory slur of black people. The nooses refer to Jim Crow-era lynchings, and were perceived as a threat to black students on campus. Racially motivated threats are a version of oppression and marginalization.
