New FL Policy Will Keep Inmates Far From Family

In September 2018 Florida state prisons announced a new plan to incarcerate inmates in counties away from their home counties. One of the factors that is shown to reduce recidivism is having a strong support network, including outside of the prison. This policy will significantly impair those support networks. As the criminal justice system disproportionately affects people of color and people in poverty, and prioritizes punishment over rehabilitation, this is an example of systemic racism and wealth inequality.
