MA Black Students Targeted in Dress Code Crackdown for Black Hairstyles

In April 2017 Massachusetts black students were targeted in a school dress code crackdown that seemed to focus on black hairstyles. Students and parents complained that white students who violated the code appeared to have not been targeted. The isolation of black students - which included in-school detention and suspensions, removal from after-school activities and sports, and exclusion from prom - amounts to institutionalized racism.
