Documenting the Kyriarchy: Modern Day Slavery
In June of 2018 slavery exists in the United States. When the 13th amendment abolished slavery, it included the exception of punishment for a crime. In Louisiana, prisoners have been protesting hard labor working in fields harvesting produce. The labor is forced under penalty of physical (use of force) and psychological (solitary confinement) punishment. Mass incarceration affects black men at greater rates than any other demographic. In fact, more innocent blacks are sent to prison than innocent whites. Slavery is dehumanizing, and in its current state still an institution of racism.
