Black Legislator in OH Subjected to Racial Bias at the Statehouse

Reporting in June 2018 revealed that a black legislator in Ohio had been stopped multiple times while attempting to enter the statehouse, her workplace, including once being told that she doesn’t “look like a legislator.” She reported that other black members of the Ohio General Assembly had faced similar treatment, while white colleagues had not. Racial bias about who can do what jobs limits opportunities for people of color. This marginalizes them and maintains an oppressive status quo.
